A Taste of Burnham

A Taste of Burnham - Info Lunch

The Burnham Fellowship is a nine-month learning community designed to broaden your understanding of and deepen your connection to God’s redemptive work by applying theology, spiritual practices, and cultural renewal to your work, your relationships, and the city of Chicago.

We know Burnham is a big commitment. Every Spring, we host info sessions to give those who are interested “A Taste of Burnham.”

Our next info lunches will be April 21st on the Northside and May 5th in the Loop. Here you can ask questions and learn more about the rhythms of the program. You’ll also interact with the leaders and hear from current and former Burnham Fellows about their experiences.

Testimonials

  • I am so incredibly thankful for the community of people I was blessed to spend the past year with. Burnham is not just an academic exploration of faith and work; rather it is a nurturing environment where a community of people come together to try to better understand how to live out our faith in the world. Nowhere else have I been able to explore these topics with other Christians in a way that has nurtured and equipped us to go out into the world and truly live. Their impact on my life will stay with me forever and that is the reason I would recommend Burnham to everyone.

    Jefferson McMillan-Wilhoit, 2018/19

  • The Burnham Fellowship reframed my worldview from a secular filtered lens to a Biblical one, teaching me how to indwell God’s overarching story and allowing Christ’s kingship to inform my beliefs and actions-- in the workplace and in other spheres of my life. Like the use of Terra cotta clay in reconstructing fireproof Chicago buildings, the Burnham fellowship taught me a new liturgy—remolding and developing spiritual habits with a community to walk alongside. It showed me how the enthronement of Christ on the cross allows for the renewal of my heart, directing my individual actions to communally transforming societies and culture at large.

    Megan Song, 2019/20

  • “I really appreciated Burnham as a group of deeply-thinking, intentionally-living Christians from diverse industries, denominations and backgrounds. The curriculum has helped reframe my understanding of work, but more broadly of an obedient life that goes against the grain of the story of today's time. My time in Burnham has been an encouragement to live out the calling of good work in the spheres I am currently and wherever I might be next.”

    Julia Dennis, 2021/22

  • I came into Burnham burnt out from a very stressful first year of teaching. I was ready to quit and go back to my job prior to teaching. Burnham helped me to recognize different narratives of the world I was living in, seeking to serve myself and avoid anything if it was too hard or demanded too much from me. Burnham reoriented my thinking into truly knowing that I have been given everything through Christ and so I demand nothing of this world. Instead, I am free to give everything. It has provided this freedom to go and serve my students, not because I need something from them or that I need to save them. But rather, I just have to bear witness to the unveiling of His Kingdom.
